Sky Sport to screen top paddling events

Canoe Racing New Zealand is delighted to announce that the King and Queen of the Harbour and Blue Lake 2 will both feature as highlight packages on Sky Sport 9 and Sky Sport Next.

Coverage of both events, which take place on successive weekends in December, is part of the Canoe Racing NZ partnership with Sky Sport and the New Zealand Sport Collective – one of 50 sports which will see some content broadcast on Sky Sport and Sky’s sport streaming service.

The highlights packages will be produced by Auckland-based Ignite Studios – led by director and producer Kingi Gilbert.

Kingi is a former multiple winning World Waka Ama champion and he has extensive coverage producing water sports events. He has also been involved in a variety of media productions for film, TV and animation.

“We are excited to bring you these two events,” explains Kingi.

“As well as serving up the best of the on water action, we’ll interview all the top paddlers and our coverage will help give viewers a greater understanding of both surf ski and flatwater paddling.

“We expect the racing to be hotly contested and we are looking forward to bringing you the very best of the racing in both Auckland Harbour and at Lake Tikitapu.”

Tom Ashley CE at Canoe Racing NZ added: “We are delighted to be able to showcase these events. The partnership with Sky gives us the opportunity to promote different aspects of our sport. Through our coverage of sprint and ocean racing, we will do our best to give Kiwis a unique view of what makes these disciplines exciting, and hopefully encourage more people to give paddling a try.”

The King and Queen of the Harbour event takes place on Saturday December 5 with the Blue Lake 2 regatta in Rotorua taking place across the weekend of December 12-13.

Official screening times will be confirmed in due course.
