This selection is recognition of their performance to date in 2019 and we wish them all the best in joining the NZ team.

The CRNZ Board has extended the Selection Date for the MK4 500 until 9 August in order to give our U23 K4 crew a further opportunity to meet the required performance standard. As such, it is possible that further athletes may be selected to our World Champs team.

CRNZ would like to acknowledge the following athletes who will form the New Zealand team for the ICF Ocean Ski World Champs in France this September.

NZ Team for 2019 Canoe Marathon World Champs

The following athletes will compete for NZ at the 2019 Marathon World Championship in China in October.

Event Athletes

Open Men K1  Andrew Mowlem

Masters K1  Garth Spencer, Vaughan Reed

Masters K2  Garth Spencer and Vaughan Reed

NZ is allowed up to 2 entries in each division for the Marathon World Champs, and up to 5 entries available at Ocean Ski Worlds for U18, U23 and Open men’s and women’s divisions (as well as unlimited entries for the masters’ events). Any paddlers who would like to compete in either event are welcome to express interest by emailing

The CRNZ Distance Paddling Committee has set an objective that NZ sends full teams to compete at the Ocean Ski and Marathon World Champs within the next several years. We would like to promote all areas of our sport and acknowledge that distance paddling represents the majority of our participation base. We hope that the increased interest generated through initiatives such as the Darcy Price Series will translate into greater numbers competing, and also more opportunities/pathways for kiwi paddlers to participate and succeed internationally.
