New Event- Kahawai Year 7&8 Challenge

Following the recent cancellation of the 2021 Anchor AIMs Games Canoe Sprint Event, CRNZ are delighted to be putting on a similar competition for year 7 & 8 paddlers in November.

The 2021 Kahawai Year 7 and 8 Challenge– designed to develop the next generation of paddlers – will be held on Saturday 6th November at Lake Okareka, Rotorua.
This event is open to all paddlers of intermediate school age (year 7 and 8), and is suitable for paddlers of all levels and from any paddling discipline (Sprint, surf, ocean, slalom or multisport).
All boats and equipment will be provided by organisers.

Please note: you do not need to have been entered in the Aims Games event to take part in this event. Open to any Y7/8 who is keen.

The event format will be the Kahawai Paddler X, where heats of 6 paddlers race from a start line, around one or more buoys and back to a finish line adjacent to the start. Races aim to take 2-4 minutes and every paddler will compete in several races as they progress from heats through to division finals.

The focus of this event is being active and having fun with friends. Check out all the fun that was had at our inaugural Kahawai event in May.

The Canoe Slalom North Island Intermediate Schools Championships is being held in Tauranga on Sunday 7th November, so the idea is that paddlers have the option to attend both events if they choose.  Entries to the two events are separate.

Entries close Monday 1st November.
