The kayak division of the Whanganui Multisport Club has been incorporated since 2006. It is a affiliated club of Canoe Racing New Zealand and as such designs programs with a view to have athletes competing at Canoe Racing New Zealand regattas. The sport of kayak, where racing is in single and team boats, is complimented by a beginner and intermediate program designed to facilitate entry into the sport from ages as young as 9 and 10 up to “senior” seniors with a love of paddlesports. Advancements in the club and a lack of feeder systems to the sport of kayak racing has seen the club start its own ocean program to align with programs akin to those being offered at Surf Lifesaving Clubs around the country. The club also promotes paddling for fitness, friendship, pleasure and at times adventure. In the first instance queries should be to Brian Scott for beginner, intermediates, ocean and K1 racing programs and Aaron Cox for multisport programs.
