The 4th  annual Kahawai Paddling Champs – an event format designed to develop the next generation of paddlers – will be held on Sunday 12th May 2024  at Takapuna Beach in Auckland. For the first time, it will include senior (adult) paddlers so they can get in on the fun!

Open to all paddlers of all ages abilities from new paddlers to nationally competitive paddlers, this event is suitable for anyone from any paddling discipline. Focus is on fun, inclusion and healthy competition.

Boats (open top, surfski style), paddles and PFDs are provided, and will be one-design within age-groups.

The event will adopt the Kahawai Paddler-X format.
Heats of 4-6 paddlers race from a start line, around one or more buoys and back to a finish line adjacent to the start. Races can take anywhere from 2-5 minutes, and every paddler will compete in several races as they progress from heats through to division finals.

The event divisions are as follows:

      • Under 12 girls, Under 12 boys
      • Under 14 girls, Under 14 boys
      • Under 16 girls, Under 16 boys
      • Under 18 girls, Under 18 boys
      • Senior men, senior women

Age groups are based on age at 1st January 2024.

This is a PaddleAble Disability Inclusive event. We welcome and encourage all paddlers. Where necessary we are able to make modifications to equipment or provide support paddlers to cater for individual needs of participants living with disabilities.
