Update to New Zealand Team for 2025 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships – Milan

Canoe Racing New Zealand (CRNZ) has confirmed a change to its women’s K4 crew following an injury sustained during training.

2024 Olympic gold medalist Olivia Brett has returned to New Zealand for treatment of a forearm injury. Stepping into her place is Dame Lisa Carrington, who has joined the team in Italy and will race in the K4 at the 2025 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Milan, Italy, 20–24 August.

Nathan Luce, CRNZ General Manager of Performance, says the team is handling the unexpected change with resilience.

“This is a really tough situation for Olivia, and our thoughts are with her as she begins her recovery. CRNZ will support her every step of the way to get back on the water.

“We’re fortunate to have someone of Lisa’s calibre available to step in. While she hasn’t competed internationally this year, she’s maintained full-time training and is in race-ready form.”
