Understanding your vital role in Clean Sport

As we head into some pinnacle events of the season across all kayaking disciplines, it is a good time to remind everyone involved in our awesome sport of the vital roles they play in ensuring a clean sport.

Canoe Racing NZ is committed to clean sport. We believe in protecting the health of our athletes, the integrity of our sport and the spirit of clean competition in which the best succeed.
What does clean sport mean?
Clean sport means athletes who are empowered to:
  • Compete on a level playing field
  • Be rewarded for their mahi, talent and skills
  • Value the spirit of sport
  • Respect and look after their bodies and their health
  • Follow the anti-doping rules
  • Understand the importance of a drug testing regime to catch people who break the rules, and to protect clean athletes.
Know your role
Everyone plays a role in keeping sport clean, from those who take part to those who support from the sidelines. Supporting clean sport looks different for everyone and depends on your role. It can mean following anti-doping rules by understanding and avoiding the anti-doping rule violations. It can also mean reinforcing clean sport values like integrity and fair play.
The Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui has a e-learning courses offering athletes, support personnel and anyone with an interest in sport an easy and convenient way to learn about clean sport.
A range of modules offer information about anti-doping rules, medications, supplements, the doping control process and reporting doping. You can access the courses for free from anywhere in the world, and there is something suitable for you no matter your current level of knowledge or the level at which you play sport.
We highly recommend all athletes and supporters of the sport check out these courses – on completion, you can add the credential to your personal profile in the CRNZ Paddler Portal.
