Paris 2024 Olympics- Day 2 Wrap and Day 3 Schedule

It was business as usual for NZ’s women K1 athletes Lisa Carrington and Aimee Fisher on day 2 of the Canoe Sprint at the Paris 2024 Olympic games, both winning their heats to advance directly through to the WK1 500m semi-final on Saturday.

Fisher was up first in heat one, and lead from start to finish in her favoured event. She crossed the line in a time of 1.49.16, clear ahead of Argentina in 2nd and Belgium in 3rd.

Carrington similarly eased into the semi-final, cruising to victory in her heat in 1.48.51, the fastest time of the day.

This sets the stage for the most anticipated kayak race of the Olympic Games, a potential final featuring both these New Zealanders on Saturday night (NZT).

Carrington is the defending world and Olympic champion in this event, the gold she earned in Tokyo just one of 5 gold medals she has won.

Aimee comes into this regatta in the form of her life, with two wins over  Carrington at the recent World Cup regattas, albeit by the smallest of margins.

Saturday promises to be a true showdown but overall a celebration of women’s kayaking and the depth we are fortunate to have in Aotearoa.

But first, we have team boat racing to conclude. Thursday night will see the first canoe sprint medals of 2024 decided, with Kiwis featuring in K4 and C2 events overnight.
