New Zealand Officials on the International Stage

It’s not just our athletes that perform admirably on the world stage but also our New Zealand Officials.
Congratulations to the following NZ officials who have been selected for Official roles at ICF events for the 2025 international event season:

  • Toni Hoskin: Competition Manager, ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup 2, Poland 22-25 May
  • Karen Simpson-Warren: Chief Judge, ICF Junior & U23 World Championships, Portugal 23-27 July
  • Matt Warren: Chief Starter, ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, Italy 20-24 August
  • Terry Newsome: Penalty Box Judge, ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships, Hungary 4-7 September
Being selected for these roles at these major events is a big accomplishment and an indication of the skill and commitment by these wonderful volunteers. It is also a sign of the strong official development programme we have here in Aotearoa, led by Karen Simpson-Warren and Matt Warren and the Officials committee.

Asia Pacific Cup Officials 2025

There was also an group of kiwi officials at the recent Asia Pacific Cup in Japan, as part of the Tri-Nations agreement between NZ, Australia and Japan to make these Asia Pacific events possible for the young and developing athletes in this part of the world. These officials were:

Matt Warren – Chief ID Control
Karen Simpson-Warren – Chief Judge
Trish Taylor-Pope – Course Umpire
Aniwa MacKenzie – Chief Starter
Canoe Racing NZ and the kayaking community is so grateful for the skills and dedication by all our officials to support and grow our sport not just in Aotearoa but globally.
