Medal tally jumps for Kiwis

The last day of racing at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Hungary, saw our womens team round off their medal tally with another two gold medals - the K2 200 featuring Lisa Carrington and Aimee Fisher, and the K4 500 adding Kayla Imrie and Caitlin Ryan.  This brings their total to 4 gold medals, with Scott Martlews silver in the KL2 200 bringing the NZ team count up to 5 medals.

The junior womens K4 (all U23) will be circumspect about their 3rd placing in the 500m B Final.  This very new crew will be setting their sights on the Junior/U23 Canoe Sprint World Champs in Bulgaria at the end of July and no doubt this is all good groundwork.

This World Cup has seen Coach Gordon Walker trialing different combinations in the team boats and seeing some sharp results.  It will be interesting to see what combos he sticks with in next weeks World Cup 2 in Germany.

Medal Tally:

  • Caitlin Ryan 2 golds (K1 500, K4 500)
  • Kayla Imrie 2 golds (K2 500, K4 500)
  • Aimee Fisher 2 golds (K2 200, K4 500)
  • Lisa Carrington 3 golds (K2 200, K2 500, K4 500)
  • Scott Martlew 1 silver (KL2 200)
