Hungarian Regatta - Friday's racing

Today we joined in a local Hungarian regatta to give us some race time against someone other than our team mates.  The team started out strong with the u18 Mens K1 heats where both Karl McMurtrie and Thomas Cole progressed through to the semis. Although both boys narrowly missed out on making the finals they went on to win the K4 along with team members Toby Brooke and Alex Bristow. Karl and Toby also teamed up later in the day to win the K2 500m.

The U23 men also had a strong day gaining gold in the K2 (Max Brown, Kurtis Imrie) and K4 events (Max Brown, Kurtis Imrie, Andrew Roy, Aiden Nossiter). Max decided to top these two gold finishes off with a bronze in the K1.

The girls also had a great day with Cassandra Wilson and Tess Allen teaming up to place 2nd in the U18 k2 with fellow NZ team members Courtney Hoskin and Shani Clack gaining 3rd. In the U23 women Rebecca Cole placed 1st in the K1 with Briar McLeely gaining 3rd. Due to numbers only K1 was held in the U23 women.

Overall the team had a very successful day winning a total of nine podium finishes. The U18 and U23 men along with the U18 women K2 crew of Cassandra Wilson and Tess Allen are ready to race the 1000’s tomorrow while the rest of the girls will be staying at the accommodation to train in the K4’s. The day would not have been possible at all without the help of Paul, Gergely and Anita who went above and beyond to make sure all 18 athletes were organised, happy and ready to race.
