Big finish needed for Martlew

Scott Martlew's hopes of making the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games remain alive, despite missing out on an A final spot at the ICF Paracanoe World Championships in Duisburg, Germany, overnight.

The Christchurch paddler finished fourth in his KL3 200m semifinal with a 42.348sec time. He was just 0.11secs adrift of Senegal's third-place finisher Edmond Sanka, with Brazilian world champion Caio Carvalho De Ribeiro winning the semifinal in 40.571, ahead of Russian Artem Voronkov.

The first two boats in each of the four semifinals - plus the fastest third-place finisher - all made tonight's A final, with Martlew making the B final.
However, several paddlers in the A final have already qualified for Rio, while Great Britain and Russia each have two paddlers in the A final.
It means Martlew still has a chance of getting one of the four qualifying spots still available, although it's likely he'll have to finish in the top-two of the B final to snare a spot.

The B final is raced at 9.20pm Kiwi time tonight.  Full Schedule here.
