NZ University Blues Awards

University Sport New Zealand (USNZ) has announced the recipients of the prestigious Blues Award for the 2011 academic year.  This year’s presentation sees 67 students across 30 different sports receive a Blue in recognition of their outstanding sporting and academic achievements in 2011.  University Sport New Zealand received over 130 nominations across 45 sports for the 2011 academic year.

Of particular note and congratulations ... the supreme award for the NZ Universities Maori Sportsperson of the Year went to our own Lisa Carrington.  Lisa's achievement in winning Gold at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in the K1 200m made her the first New Zealand woman to win a Canoeing World Championship title.

Congratulations too, to Scott Bicknell, a member of the Hawkes Bay Kayak Club, who was also recognised in canoe sprint.
