North Island Development Camp

3 & 4 September

DSCF4209.JPG The second North Island Development Camp is quickly approaching and I  have already started to get participants enquiring following the success of the first camp. The camp will be run on the 3rd and 4th of September at Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lakes) in conjunction with the CRNZ 10km Championships. All participants need to arrive on Friday night, the camp concluding on Saturday night and racing beginning on Sunday morning. The camp caters to every paddlers ability and a variety of kayak disciplines; Sprint, Marathon, Ocean Ski, Surf Ski and Multisport. We would like to encourage attendees to bring the craft that they are comfortable in.

The camp is focused upon teaching athletes how to 'Prepare for a Race' and 'How to Race'. We will be drawing on experienced athletes and coaches to ensure each discipline is given information specific to their events.

The camp will be based out of the Blue Lake Top 10 Holiday Park and Motel, 723 Tarawera Road, Blue Lake Rotorua.

 Coach Development:

DSCF4234.JPGAs with the first North Island Athlete Development Camp, it will also act as an opportunity for coaches to gain greater experience by working alongside New Zealand's top coaching staff. Junior coaches will be paired with Senior/High Performance coaches during the two on-water sessions and it provides a great social networking opportunity. Coaches will work with a variety of athletes, challenging their skills and knowledge. I would strongly encourage all coaches to attend. Again, please complete the attached entry form to confirm your attendance at the camp and invite coaches within your region that may be interested. While this camp will only run during Saturday, there will be plenty of opportunities for coaches to gain further experience and knowledge from attending the camp.

Volunteers / Officials

Anyone interested in getting some training on starting and finishing duties can attend the training on offer on the Saturday.  These are important roles during regattas and quite simple once you  know how.  Parents bringing their kids along are encouraged to get involved.  Please let Karen know if you're keen to do this.  It's free and does not put you under any obligation afterwards.   Email Karen.
