Coach Development Programme

CRNZ recognizes the importance that coaches and coaching will play in meeting its strategic objectives of 'growing the sport' and 'developing world class athletes' as outlined in the Whole of Sport Development Framework.

To be able to achieve this CRNZ has identified that it needs to develop a world class coaching programme and resources to support coaches to develop the skills to deliver that athletes needs across all communities within the sport.

This programme will provide a wide range of learning opportunities that allow coaches to identify and access personal development that corresponds with the athletes they are coaching and their specific developmental needs.

The CRNZ Coach Development Programme encompasses two aspects:

  • The Coach Development Modules - 3 Level from Community to Competition Coach.
  • The Coach On-going Development Programme - Coaching conferences, Workshops and Development Camps.

Coach Development Modules

The Coach Development Modules provide coaches with the formal training and accreditation they need.  The Coach Development Modules will be administered and delivered by the CRNZ Sport Development.

The current CRNZ Coaching Development framework is based on coaching points, and follows the structure developed in 2010, with reviewed pathways and delivery methods.

A particular mention goes to Mark Watson, for putting together a comprehensive pathway, and to Surf Life Saving New Zealand for sharing part of their resources.

Cross credits and recognition of prior learning are available for Surf Life Saving Coaches and other candidates, and will be discussed case by case.
