Details of the NZ qualification process for the Youth Olympic Games

Canoe Racing New Zealand and Canoe Slalom have teamed up to offer a neat opportunity for our respective members.  Read on for all the information. 

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) plays a crucial role in the development of young athletes and provides a multi-sport Games experience that helps them along the route to their own Olympic dreams.

Canoe Slalom New Zealand alongside Canoe Racing New Zealand are holding a YOG world qualification selection race at Vector Wero White Water Park on Thursday 25th January 2018.

From this selection event a team of athletes (K1 Men, K1 Women, C1 Men, C1 Women) will be selected to compete at the World qualification event in Barcelona, Spain from the 12 – 15 April 2018.

Athletes must compete in both Sprint and Slalom events of the same category (K1 or C1) and must have been born between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2003

To help those who may be unfamiliar with Canoe Slalom or Canoe Sprint get up to speed there will be coached sessions on Friday 12th January at Vector Wero (Auckland) where coaches from Canoe Slalom New Zealand and Canoe Racing New Zealand will be able to give you advice and help to be competitive within that discipline.

Any athletes interested in taking part in the coaching sessions must have registered their interest with Matt McKnight by 9th January 2018 through the Canoe Slalom NZ Website which can be found on the following link http://www.slalomnz.org.nz/ under the events tab or by going to this link - http://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/70562   Please note there is a $20 fee.

Any athletes interested in competing at this selection event and must have registered with Matt McKnight by 15th January 2018 through the Canoe Slalom NZ Website which can be found on the following link http://www.slalomnz.org.nz/ under the events tab.
