The second annual South Island Champs included a school champs this year, and was attended by 42 paddlers from Otago and Arawa Clubs.   Twizel turned on some stunning weather and paddling was on calm water with a backdrop of snowy ranges.

The secondary schools competition was won by St Andrews College and the primary schools competition was won by Heaton Intermediate. This was a great introduction for the schools and lays a platform for future school events, showcasing what an extra element of competition can add to a regatta.

Although numbers were small both clubs are keen to develop canoe sprint in the South Island and plans for next year are already underway.
