NZ Marathon Champs

After the stormy conditions of the week we didn't have high expectations of this weekend.  But Wellington lived up to it's reputation... "You can't be Wellington on a good day"!   The Porirua harbour was calm as glass first thing, although to be fair it chopped up a bit mid morning.

However that didn't deter the 44 paddlers who took to the water and enjoyed the calm after the storm.   A mass start for all paddlers saw them separate into a number of smaller groups with the eventual Multicraft winner, Rob Nicol, leading the pack for most of the race with Masters winner Glenn Muirhead close by.

The Open Men paddled the longest distance (28km or 8 laps) and Andrew Mowlem set a cracking pace keeping up with the Masters men who dropped out two laps earlier.

Our junior paddlers were lead by Jordan McLarin in the U18 Men who managed to beat Dad Simon (Masters 55+ winner) in both the K1 and K2 (nice to see a bit of friendly family rivalry right there).
