Lake Okareka presented near perfect conditions for the final race in the Kayak Krazy 10km Series and the national 10km Championships.  68 people made the journey to Rotorua and were rewarded with some bursts of sunshine and a good morning's paddling.

The 10km paddlers set off first with the 5km and 2.5km paddlers following a minute behind.  The lead pack broke away in the first lap and from then there were multiple sub-groups throughout the race.  Open Mens leaders Zach Ferkins and Hamish Legarth stuck close together with a pack consisting of Toby Brooke, Tuva'a Clifton and Masters paddler Matt
Archer not far behind. Sam Newlands and Dan Peacock were also not far off the pack before Zach and Hamish opened up a gap to finish two minutes ahead.

The Open Women were spread out amongst other age groups and there were a lot of one-on-one challenges going on throughout the race.

It was great to see a group of ski paddlers from Waimarama compete in the event for the second year running.

The major spot prize of $1,000 travel, kindly donated by the wonderful team at Elliot Travel, was won by Jayha Egan, a Tyros paddler who couldn't be happier!

Other prizes thanks to the great folk at Eagar for Leisure were gratefully received!
