47 paddlers took to the water on Lake Okareka, Rotorua, for the final race of the Kayak Krazy 10km Series on Saturday.   There was a sharp blustery wind cutting through the lake so the course was changed to keep paddlers in as close to the sheltered shore as possible.  The odd squall made things a bit unpleasant but thankfully these weren't too persistent.

The 10km paddlers started first followed by the 5km younger paddlers a minute later.

A lead group of Open and Masters split into two early on and pushed each other throughout with Taris Harker and Sam Newlands (both BOP) sprinting for the finish and the win, Taris beating Sam by 2 seconds with Jordan McLarin (PB) coming in third, but winning the Series on points in this division.

He was joined by his father Masters Mens winner Simon McLarin (Waitemata) who also won the series in his division.  Simon and Tim Taylor (BOP) stuck together throughout the race with Open Womens winner Rebecca Cole.  Tim and Simon had a great sprint for the finish with Simon just a hairs breadth ahead of Tim and Rebecca only 8 seconds behind them.

The U18 mens division was a close race with Toby Sutton (PB) and Ben McCallum (Wanganui) fighting hard all the way and Toby winning both the Champs and the series.

Alicia Hoskin (PB) had a comfortable win in the U16 womens 5km division with the others all spreading out across the course.

The top spot prize of a $1000 travel voucher was won by a very happy Finn Brimelow (Waitara).  Thanks to our sponsor Elliot Travel for their generous support!
