Lisa Carrington has been awarded the prestigious Lonsdale Cup for 2017 following another year of sterling performances.  Lisa now holds three Olympic medals covering both single and team boats. She also claimed world championship titles in the K1 200 and K2 500 (with Caitlin Ryan), as well as world championship silver in the K1 500 and bronze in the K4 500 (with team mates Caitlin Ryan, Aimee Fisher and Kayla Imrie).

The cup is given annually to the New Zealand athlete or team that made the most outstanding contribution to Olympic or Commonwealth sport during the year.

Carrington also won an additional five golds and one silver across two World Cups last year.

"It's a real privilege to be presented the Lonsdale Cup for the second year in a row," Carrington said.  "I'm really proud of last year's results and this award represents a lot of hard work and determination."

Carrington increased her focus on team boats in 2017, and said racing in team boats was a new challenge.

"I'm loving being part of both the K2 and K4 environments."

Carrington is currently training in Auckland ahead of the 2018 international season and will be travelling with the High Performance team to Europe in the build up to the World Cups.
