A small field provided some tight racing

Conditions on Lake Pupuke were wet and wild and racing for the weekend was moved to the Waitemata Club in Te Atutu where conditions were as calm as a millpond and provided ideal racing conditions. 

Although the field was small there were some tight groups who kept together throughout the race.  On the finishing lap U18 paddlers Jordan McLarin and Quaid Thompson had a heated sprint to the finish with Thompson taking the win and repeated the scenario the following day in the K2s, this time racing in the Open division (Thompson and Zach Ferkins vs McLarin and Dan Peacocke).  

The U18 Women raced up in the U23 division due to low numbers and this made for a fairly spread race for the women with Kim Thompson taking out gold.

In the Masters 45+ division the battle between Simon McLarin and Glenn Muirhead lasted the duration with a final sprint for the finish line resulting in a close win for McLarin. 

The Open Men stayed in a fairly close bunch for much of the race with Sam Newlands breaking away gradually on the last couple of laps to finish 5 minutes clear of Matt Loveridge and the rest of the pack spread out a few minutes apart.
