Ski/Marathon Committee

Expressions of Interest are sought for paddlers keen to be part of the surf ski and marathon disciplines committee.

CRNZ is creating a committee to govern and promote the disciplines of surfski and marathon racing in NZ. We are seeking expressions of interest from keen paddlers who would be willing to contribute their time to this initiative and help to promote our sport.

We are still working to develop detailed terms of reference. However, in broad terms, the committee’s mandate will be to:
- promote surfski and marathon paddling in NZ, and to encourage initiatives that promote the disciplines;
- represent the interests of NZ paddlers to ICF and Oceania technical committees;
- manage national ranking/points systems for the two disciplines;
- develop criteria for selection of the host of the NZ national surfski and marathon championship, and to award/sanction events according to those criteria;
- make recommendations to CRNZ regarding preparation of selection policies for ICF surfski and marathon World Championships; and
- where possible/appropriate, organise bids to hold international events (e.g. ICF World Cups) in NZ.

If possible, we would like to see representatives from across NZ (i.e. not just Auckland) and from both surf ski and marathon communities. A Canoe Racing NZ representative (either Karen Simpson-Warren or Tom Ashley) will sit on the group. The majority of meetings are likely to be by Zoom or teleconference, however we may be able to organise face-to-face meetings from time to time.

If you are keen to put your name forward for this committee please fill in the Expression of Interest Form and return by 31 August 2018 to karen.simpson@canoeracing.org.nz
