Standard Incident Procedure 

Step 1: Assess the environment for hazards. 

Step 2: Provide first aid, ABC. 

Step 3: Contact emergency services if required. 

Step 4: Treat for shock. 

Step 5: Locate nearest defibrillator if required.  

Step 6: Nominate staff to stay with patient until stable or hand over to family member or emergency services (this person to stay with patient to hospital until discharged or handed on to family). 

Step 7: Contact patient family member or support person. Exchange phone details. 

Step 8: Contact CRNZ by phone, consult with CEO prior to informing external media and using social media channels. 

Step 9: Keep family and CRNZ updated. 

Step 10: Fill in incident report form ASAP (see below)
