Surfski Ocean Racing is a rapidly growing watersport in New Zealand and around the world. Many surfski ocean racing athletes have a background in flatwater kayaking and surf lifesaving.

Canoe Racing New Zealand's Surf Ski Ocean Racing team competes in both national and international events.

The key national event is the King of the Harbour held off of Takapuna Beach in Auckland. The key international events are the World Series events held in a number of countries around the globe, of which King of the Harbour is one in the series.
